DANGER WILL ROBINSON

Hadley Price

A Sci-Fi Warning With a Human Heart. Some warnings are impossible to ignore. “Danger, Will Robinson” takes one of science fiction’s most recognizable alarm calls and launches it into a new musical world.

one where technology, artificial intelligence, curiosity, and human instinct collide.

The song has the energy of a retro science-fiction adventure but looks squarely toward the future. Its mechanical imagery and sense of approaching danger create a cinematic atmosphere, while underneath it all is a very human idea: What happens when the technology we create begins moving faster than our ability to understand or control it?

There is some fun in the concept, too. The familiar phrase gives the song an immediate wink to classic sci-fi, but the music isn't intended simply as nostalgia. It turns that warning into something relevant again. Robots, intelligent machines, autonomous technology, and worlds once imagined only in movies no longer seem quite so distant.

That contrast is what makes “Danger, Will Robinson” work—the excitement of discovery mixed with the uneasy feeling that perhaps we should pay attention to the flashing lights.

The accompanying artwork carries that idea into another world: a weathered robot standing against a brilliant alien sunset, surrounded by strange terrain and futuristic spacecraft. He looks like he's traveled a very long way to deliver one simple message: Danger, Will Robinson.
