Quarter to noon, I slipped on some shoes,
My shadow quit followin', said, "I refuse."
The mailbox winked...
The porch swing grinned...
Even the scarecrow caught a second wind.
The dog looked up like, "This oughta be good."
The rooster strutted... owned the neighborhood.
By then I knew...
Something was loose.
Nothing that day Was playing by the rules.
You ever have one of those days
Where common sense just packs up and leaves?
You blame the weather, blame the moon,
Blame holes worn through your blue jeans.
Folks say luck comes in twos...
I say trouble comes in shoes.
If life starts acting plumb confused...
Check what you slipped your feet into.
I waved at a cow...
she tipped her hat.
A goat yelled, "Buddy, imagine that!"
A squirrel ran off with my pickup keys.
A duck said, "Follow me, if you please."
The barber trimmed my old hound dog.
The dog came back lookin' just like Bob.
I asked the crow, "Who's running this show?"
He just laughed and said, "You oughta know."
I scratched my head...
Checked both my shoes...
Somebody whispered, "Boy, you've lit the fuse."
You ever have one of those days
Where nothing acts the way it should?
The cows all laughed,
the ducks gave chase,
The rooster ruled the neighborhood.
I still can't prove my story's true...
Believe it, don't—it's up to you.
But if your shadow walks off first...
Don't argue with the shoes!
Quarter to noon...
I slipped on some shoes.
My shadow still won't answer my calls.
